Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Immunology and Biochemistry
A Postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Richard D. Cummings with
demonstrated experience in immunology and biochemistry. This postdoctoral candidate is expected to
focus on studying the roles of O-glycans in murine and human T and B cell biology, and includes multiple
techniques including flow cytometry, western blotting, tissue immunohistochemistry, working with mice
and mouse models of autoimmunity, PCR, DNA sequence analysis, molecular cloning, human
immunophenotyping, and protein expression and purification. The successful applicant, however, does
not need prior experience in all of these techniques.
Requirements:
• PhD or MD/PhD with 0-2 years of postdoctoral experience, and background in molecular biology and
immunology. Previous work in glycobiology is not a requirement.
• Demonstrated success as exemplified by strong peer-reviewed publications.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills in fluent English.
• Independent and motivated self-starter who thrives in a large, highly interactive scientific
environment, as collaborative studies with other laboratory members is required.
For questions and inquiries, please submit your cover letter including contact information for three
references and CV to Dr. Richard D. Cummings at rcummin1@bidmc.harvard.edu
Lab environment:
We have a dedicated and diverse group of scientists working in the lab who work
both independently and as a team, and are located at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in the
Longwood Medical Area adjacent to Harvard Medical School. Our diverse research areas
combine molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, glycomics, and glycobiology to
study the roles of glycoproteins and their functional importance in a variety of biological settings.
